چکیده

A 73-year-old man was referred to the outpatient clinic with a 2-week history of headache and apathy. Neurologic examination revealed mild left-sided facial, arm, and leg paresis. Head CT appeared to show a right frontal lobe tumor with finger-like vasogenic edema. Instead, MRI revealed a subacute lobar hemorrhage with perihematomal edema (figure). On follow-up imaging, no underlying cause was found. The temporal changes in density on CT can make a hemorrhage difficult to recognize, particularly in the late subacute phase. MRI is able to detect several phases of hematoma evolution and shows better discrimination of the lesion from surrounding edema.

Brain Metastasis from Invasive Thymoma Mimicking Intracerebral Hemorrhage: Case Report

A 55-year-old man with an 8-year history of invasive thymoma presented with sudden onset of left hemiparesis. Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging showed a right frontal lobe intracerebral hemorrhage and the possibility of brain metastasis could not be rejected. The patient underwent removal of the hematoma. Histological examination showed brain metastasis from invasive ...

Diffusion-weighted imaging hyperintensities in intracerebral hemorrhage: microinfarcts or microbleeds?

As reported in “Predictors of Highly Prevalent Brain Ischemia in Intracerebral Hemorrhage,” a high prevalence of diffusionweighted imaging hyperintense lesions (DWIHLs) in patients with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage is being recognized. These lesions have strong associations with subclinical markers of small vessel disease (SVD) such as cerebral microbleeds (CMBs). In view of the restric...

Glioma Mimicking a Hypertensive Intracerebral Hemorrhage

Here, we report a rare case of an anaplastic astrocytoma masquerading as a hypertensive basal ganglia hemorrhage. A 69-year-old woman who had been under medical management for hypertension during the past 3 years suddenly developed right hemiparesis with dysarthria. Brain computed tomography (CT) scans with contrast and CT angiograms revealed an intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) in the left basal ...

Teaching neuroimages: remote cerebellar hemorrhage following resection of a supratentorial tumor.

A 23-year-old man was admitted with blurred vision and headache. Ten years ago he was diagnosed with a left temporal pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma; his last resection was 6 years ago. Current CT and MRI showed left temporal encephalomalacia; MRI also revealed incidental bilateral remote cerebellar hemorrhages (RCH) (figure). Called “remote” due to their distance from the surgical site, RCH are ...
